Zaneti Care & Maintenance Guide

This guide outlines recommended care and maintenance practices for Zaneti indoor and outdoor furniture, including teak, metal and indoor upholstery. Following these instructions helps preserve appearance, structural integrity and warranty coverage.

Indoor & Outdoor Furniture Care Advice

Use & Maintenance Guide

To preserve the appearance, structural integrity and warranty coverage of your Zaneti furniture, please follow the care and maintenance guidelines below. Proper use and regular maintenance help maximise product lifespan in both residential and high-traffic commercial environments.

Important: Damage caused during unpacking, misuse, or incorrect care may not be covered under the Zaneti Guarantee.

Unwrapping & Installation

Please take care when unwrapping your furniture. Avoid:

  • Cutting too deeply with knives or scissors
  • Scratching surfaces with staples
  • Placing table tops directly on hard or abrasive ground

Marks and scratches caused during unpacking are not covered under the Zaneti Guarantee.

Cleaning & Maintenance

Metal Furniture

Clean using clean water, or water with a mild, non-detergent soap.

After cleaning, wipe surfaces dry to prevent water marks or limescale residue.

Do not use

  • Abrasive sponges
  • Abrasive powders
  • Harsh chemical detergents

For heavier dirt

  • A window-cleaning product containing alcohol, or
  • A specialist cleaner such as Star brite® Multi-Purpose Cleaner

For furniture combining metal and outdoor technical fabric, clean the fabric with mild soapy water. For ingrained dirt, use a soft brush and an appropriate specialist cleaner.

Timber Furniture (Ash & Solid Timber)

Zaneti timber furniture, including pieces such as Coco and Sauvage chairs in solid ash, requires regular care to preserve its finish and structural integrity.

Cleaning

  • Wipe regularly with a clean, dry cloth to remove dust and dirt.
  • Do not allow liquids to sit on timber surfaces, as moisture may penetrate and cause staining.
  • Wipe spills immediately using a clean damp cloth.

For day-to-day cleaning, the steps above are generally sufficient. If preferred, Osmo Spray Cleaner Clear Interior may be used. This pre-mixed solution is designed specifically for oiled and waxed timber surfaces.

Do not use other cleaners or polishes, as they may cause permanent damage. Not suitable for lacquered surfaces.

Maintenance

To rejuvenate oiled timber furniture, Osmo Liquid Wax Cleaner Spray is recommended (not suitable for lacquered finishes). This product contains natural carnauba and candelilla waxes along with a small amount of hardwax oil.

  • Helps remove heavier stains
  • Reduces the appearance of light scratches
  • Restores natural hard wax protection without forming a surface film

For heavily worn pieces, sanding and refinishing may be considered by a qualified professional.

Outdoor Timber

Australia’s high UV exposure and coastal conditions can significantly impact timber used outdoors, leading to warping, bowing and splitting.

  • Outdoor timber furniture is recommended for use undercover only.
  • If not in use for extended periods, store indoors where possible.
  • Where storage is not possible, use breathable furniture covers.
  • Lightly sand and reapply a UV-stable exterior oil (such as decking oil) every 6 months.
  • Maintenance may be required more frequently in extreme climates.

Reclaimed Timber

Reclaimed timber is sourced from various Australian species. Colour tone, grain variation and markings will vary accordingly.

  • Avoid placing reclaimed timber directly on carpets or light flooring that may stain.
  • Natural leaching may occur over time.

Things to Note

Timber is a natural material that responds to environmental conditions.

  • Extreme changes in temperature and humidity may cause movement, cracking or bowing.
  • Avoid direct heat from hot cookware, laptops and electrical devices.
  • Use protective mats and coasters.
  • Underfloor heating may cause uneven drying in solid timber.
  • Limit prolonged direct sunlight exposure where possible.

Fabric & Upholstery Care

Zaneti upholstery fabrics are selected for durability, comfort and commercial suitability. Proper maintenance helps preserve colour, texture and overall performance.

Fabric Protection

To extend the lifespan of your upholstery, professional fabric protection is recommended. Protection treatments vary in effectiveness and environmental impact. Only treatments approved for the specific fabric should be used.

The use of unsuitable protection methods or chemical treatments may affect fabric performance and warranty coverage.

Routine Cleaning

  • Vacuum weekly using an upholstery attachment to remove dust and debris.
  • Plump and rotate cushions regularly where applicable.
  • Avoid harsh brushing or abrasion.

Spills & Stains

  • Attend to spills immediately.
  • Blot gently with a clean, lightly damp cloth.
  • Do not rub or scrub the affected area.
  • Do not apply non-recommended chemical cleaners.

For difficult stains or periodic deep cleaning, engage a professional upholstery cleaning specialist experienced in commercial-grade fabrics.

Sunlight & Placement

Direct UV exposure may cause colour fading and fibre degradation over time. Position upholstered furniture away from prolonged direct sunlight where possible.

Fabric-Specific Guidance

Care requirements vary depending on fabric composition. Refer to the Zaneti materials specification for guidance relating to your selected fabric. For discontinued or custom fabrics, contact your Zaneti representative for assistance.

Leather Upholstery

Zaneti leather upholstery is a natural material defined by unique grain, tone and markings. Creases, stretch marks, scars and tonal variation are characteristics of genuine leather.

Protection

Professional leather protection and maintenance treatments are recommended to extend lifespan. Protection methods vary in quality and environmental impact. Only products suitable for the specific leather type should be used.

The use of incorrect chemical treatments or unsuitable cleaning products may affect performance and warranty coverage.

Routine Care

  • Wipe weekly with a clean, damp cloth to remove dust and surface particles.
  • Avoid excessive moisture or soaking the leather.
  • Keep away from direct heat sources.

With regular use, leather will soften and relax. This is normal.

Stains & Conditioning

For difficult stains or periodic conditioning, engage a professional leather specialist. Regular nourishment helps maintain flexibility and surface integrity.

Cushions & Inserts

  • Regularly rotate and reshape loose cushions to maintain form.
  • Some movement in loose covers is expected and part of the relaxed aesthetic.
  • Foams and fillings will soften naturally over time.

Feather-filled cushions may occasionally allow a quill to surface. This can be gently removed without affecting performance.

Where suitable, air cushions in indirect sunlight to help restore loft. Avoid prolonged direct UV exposure.

Powder Coated Metal

Indoor Use

  • Wipe regularly with a soft damp cloth to remove particles that can abrade the surface.
  • Avoid abrasive cleaning products.
  • Prevent prolonged exposure to moisture, heat and direct sunlight.

Outdoor Use

Powder coating provides a durable decorative finish suitable for exterior environments. It improves surface resistance but does not replace corrosion protection in its own right.

  • Zaneti outdoor components may be produced in aluminium or steel, depending on the product.
  • Clean regularly to remove salt, pollutants and debris, particularly in coastal areas.
  • Inspect concealed areas such as underside of tops, seats and bases as part of regular maintenance.

Decorative finishes can scratch, chip or fade over time, particularly in harsh coastal environments. For outdoor applications, select UV-stable colours where possible. Natural fading may occur with prolonged exposure.

Marble

Marble is a natural stone valued for its variation and character. Each piece will differ in veining, tone and movement.

  • Wipe spills immediately to help prevent staining.
  • Do not allow liquids to sit on the surface.
  • Clean with warm soapy water and a soft cloth.

Marble is porous and may stain. Acidic substances such as wine, citrus or vinegar can etch the surface and should be avoided.

Brass

Zaneti brass components are sealed with a protective clear coat to reduce tarnishing.

  • Wipe gently with a soft cloth to remove dust.
  • Use a mild glass cleaner for occasional marks.
  • Avoid abrasive polishes or harsh chemicals.

Protection & Daily Use

All Zaneti products are supplied with protective foot pads to help prevent floor damage and reduce wear on furniture feet. Replace any lost pads through your Zaneti dealer to maintain protection.

Avoid moisture traps

  • Do not cover furniture with tarpaulins or plastic tablecloths
  • Avoid prolonged contact with objects that hold water and humidity (such as plant pots, plate stands, etc.)
  • Do not leave surfaces wet in high heat conditions

Moisture combined with heat can affect paint appearance over time.

When not in use

  • Tilt tables slightly to allow water drainage
  • Rest chairs against tables rather than placing them upside down

Table top care

Do not cover table tops with plastic sheeting. Certain plastics can affect paint finish and protective anti-corrosion and anti-UV properties over time.

Outdoor Technical Fabric (OTF)

Furniture featuring outdoor technical fabric should be protected from:

  • Sharp objects
  • Cigarettes and other heat sources

Coastal & Saline Environments

Iron furniture is not recommended for highly saline or coastal environments. For coastal installations, Zaneti aluminium collections are recommended due to improved corrosion resistance.

Storage & Longevity

Product lifespan varies depending on exposure and frequency of use. To extend durability:

  • Store in a dry, well-ventilated area during winter
  • Protect from knocks and impacts
  • Clean bird droppings immediately, as they may cause corrosion or permanent staining

Sustainability

Zaneti furniture is manufactured using recycled and recyclable materials. Please dispose of packaging and unwanted furniture responsibly through approved recycling centres.

Cushion Care & Cleaning

Zaneti cushions are engineered for performance and durability. Follow these steps:

  1. Brush off loose dirt
  2. Spray with a solution of mild soap and water
  3. Use a soft bristle brush to clean
  4. Allow the solution to soak into the fabric
  5. Rinse thoroughly until all soap residue is removed
  6. Air dry completely

Do not machine dry or expose cushions to direct high heat.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use a pressure washer on teak?

Yes, on a low-pressure setting only. High pressure can damage the timber surface.

Will the silver-grey patina damage the timber?

No. It is a natural, cosmetic change from outdoor exposure and does not reduce strength.

Should I oil my teak furniture?

Avoid general timber oils. Use cleaners and protectors designed for teak if you want to reduce staining or slow colour change.

What should I do if I spill wine, coffee, or oil?

Clean with mild soap and water first. For stubborn marks, use a teak cleaner made for outdoor teak, or lightly sand with fine grit sandpaper.
